Breast Health Awareness Program in Kanker: ‘Hug of Life’ Kits Distributed to 800 Rural Women

In Kanker, Chhattisgarh, a breast cancer awareness program was organized for women, with the district administration collaborating with NGOs and experts. During the initiative, 800 rural women were educated about breast cancer and its early detection.

Under this program, women were provided with ‘Hug of Life’ hot water bags. These specially designed bags help women identify abnormal lumps through touch and teach simple self-breast examination techniques.

The program was conducted under SBI Life Insurance’s ‘Thanks-A-Dot’ initiative. Collector Nilesh Kumar Mahadev Kshirsagar, along with SBI Life Insurance’s Corporate Communications and CSR Chief Ravindra Sharma, distributed the hot water bags to the participants.

Collector Kshirsagar emphasized that breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers among women, and early detection is the most effective way to save lives. He highlighted that such awareness programs can significantly improve community health outcomes by providing practical knowledge and essential resources.

Experts noted that women’s health and empowerment are foundational to societal progress. However, conversations about breast health are often limited due to lack of awareness or social hesitation. Programs like this encourage open discussion at home and promote positive behavioral changes.

About the ‘Hug of Life’ Hot Water Bag:
The hot water bag comes with 3D lumps that allow women to practice tactile examination. It reduces hesitation and boosts confidence in performing self-checks.
