Brutal Murder in Chhattisgarh: Youth Tied and Thrown in River on Rath Yatra Day, Four Detained
Mungeli, CG
A chilling case of murder has emerged from Chhattisgarh's Mungeli district, where a 22-year-old man was brutally killed and his body dumped in a river with his hands and feet bound. The incident occurred on Rath Yatra day, reportedly due to an old rivalry with four of the victim's acquaintances.
The victim, Dashrath Verma, had gone out on the evening of June 27 with his friends, telling his family he was going out for a stroll. When he did not return by nightfall, his worried family launched a search. The next morning, his younger brother Sanjay Verma filed a missing person complaint at the Lormi police station.
Body Found With Tied Limbs and Deep Injuries
On June 28, local police received information about a body floating near the Kankalin Temple ghat on the Maniyari River. With the help of SDRF divers, the body was recovered. Shockingly, both hands and feet were tied, and investigators discovered 12–15 deep wounds on the chest, indicating a brutal assault with sharp weapons.
According to Station House Officer Akhilesh Vaishnav, the initial investigation suggests that the murder was premeditated and committed by individuals known to the victim.
Four Suspects in Custody, One Confesses
Later that evening, police detained four men in an unrelated assault case involving substance abuse. During interrogation, one suspect confessed to his involvement in Dashrath’s murder, citing a longstanding personal grudge. Police have confirmed that at least one of the suspects has two prior criminal cases registered against him.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full sequence of events and the exact motive. Police are currently questioning all four suspects in custody.
