Cannabis Smuggler Arrested in Jagdalpur with Drugs Hidden in Rice Sack

Police in Jagdalpur have arrested a man for attempting to smuggle cannabis concealed inside a sack of rice. The accused was reportedly waiting for customers at a spot within the city when police reached the location and apprehended him. The incident falls under the City Kotwali police station limits.

According to police, they received specific information from an informer that a person was standing near the lane behind the old distillery at Hatkachora, carrying cannabis hidden inside a rice bag and waiting to sell it. Acting on the tip-off, City Kotwali station in-charge Bhola Singh Rajput formed a team and conducted a targeted operation.

On reaching the spot, police cordoned off the area and detained a suspicious individual. During questioning, he identified himself as Manglu Ram Kashyap, 58, a resident of Anukuldev Ward in Hatkachora. A search of the rice sack in his possession led to the recovery of 1.564 kg of cannabis concealed beneath the grains.

Police officials said the seized cannabis is estimated to be worth around ₹78,000. Following the recovery, the accused was arrested under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and later sent to jail.

Officials added that the investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the cannabis and whether the accused was linked to a larger distribution network. They also noted that similar action had recently been taken in the Bodhghat police station area, where suspects were arrested in connection with the sale of cannabis oil.

Police have reiterated that surveillance and informer-based operations will continue to curb drug trafficking in the city.
