CG Weather Update: Rain Alert from Bastar to Surguja; Wet Spell Likely to Continue for Four More Days
RAIPUR, CG
Chhattisgarh is expected to witness another spell of widespread rainfall over the next four days as the southwest monsoon remains active across the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for 13 districts, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and moderate to heavy rain.
While rainfall activity remained subdued over the northern and central parts of the state during the past 24 hours, southern districts received moderate showers. Raipur experienced cloudy skies for most of the day, although rainfall remained limited, leading to a slight rise in daytime temperatures.
Rainfall Still Below Seasonal Average
Despite recent showers, Chhattisgarh has so far recorded around 18% below-normal rainfall this monsoon season.
Among the highest rainfall recorded on Thursday, Gangaloor received 3 cm, while Dantewada, Karpawand, Pendra Road, Geedam, Lohandiguda, and Sakola recorded 2 cm each. Several other locations, including Bastar, Marwahi, Dhanora, Dongargarh, Dhabharpur, and Bhairamgarh, also received light rainfall.
Raipur (Mana) recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 33.1°C, while Rajnandgaon registered the lowest minimum temperature at 22°C.
Why Is the Weather Changing?
According to meteorologists, an active monsoon trough stretching across northern India, along with a low-pressure system and associated cyclonic circulation, is driving the current weather pattern. These systems are expected to keep moisture levels high, supporting widespread rainfall across Chhattisgarh over the coming days.
Raipur Weather Forecast
The state capital is likely to remain cloudy, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms during the day. Temperatures are expected to hover around 32°C (maximum) and 26°C (minimum).
Yellow Alert for 13 Districts
The IMD has placed the following districts under a Yellow Alert:
Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Bastar, Kondagaon, Dhamtari, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Baloda Bazar, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Jashpur, and Surguja.
Residents in these districts have been advised to remain alert, avoid open areas during thunderstorms, and follow official weather advisories, especially in regions vulnerable to waterlogging and lightning strikes.
