Chhattisgarh Braces for 3-Day Storm, Rain Alert 

IMD warns of strong winds up to 60 kmph and thunderstorms across state 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for the next three days as Chhattisgarh’s weather is set to turn turbulent once again. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and rain are likely across many parts of the state, with officials advising residents to stay alert.

According to the Met department, winds reaching 50 to 60 kilometres per hour could lash several districts, raising concerns over possible damage to standing crops, loose structures and power infrastructure. The alert comes at a time when parts of the state were already reeling under high temperatures.

Heat Gives Way to Turbulence

In the past 24 hours, Rajnandgaon recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state, crossing 44 degrees Celsius. Pendra Road, on the other hand, saw a relatively cooler minimum of 21 degrees Celsius. Such sharp variations have become common as summer peaks in central India.

Local residents in rural areas reported dry and dusty conditions until late Monday, with many farmers worried about the impact of strong winds on wheat and other standing crops that are nearing harvest in some pockets. 

Three-Day Warning Details

The IMD has forecast thunderstorm and lightning activity with the possibility of hail in isolated places over the coming days. Gusty winds are the biggest concern, as thundersqualls could hit speeds of 50-60 kmph at isolated locations.

Several districts including Raipur, Rajnandgaon, Durg, Bilaspur and Surguja divisions are expected to witness increased cloud cover and rain spells. Officials have asked people, especially in semi-urban and rural belts, to avoid venturing near tall trees, electric poles and under-construction sites during stormy weather.

Relief from Scorching Heat Expected

The silver lining is that this spell of bad weather is likely to bring some respite from the intense heat. Maximum temperatures may drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next couple of days in many areas. 

In Raipur, the sky is expected to remain cloudy with a chance of thundershowers. Day temperatures may hover around 42 degrees Celsius while nights could stay around 28 degrees. Similar conditions are likely in other major cities. 

Administration Issues Advisory

District administrations have begun issuing precautionary messages through social media and local networks. People have been urged to secure livestock, farm equipment and outdoor belongings. School authorities in some sensitive zones are also reviewing schedules for outdoor activities. 

Sources familiar with the situation said that power distribution companies have been asked to keep emergency teams ready in case of line snapping due to strong winds.

Why This Sudden Shift?

Meteorologists link the change to prevailing weather systems over central India, including cyclonic circulations that are pulling in moisture and triggering instability. Such pre-monsoon activities are typical for this time of the year but their intensity often surprises residents.

Farmers in particular remain cautious. While rain would help ease the soil moisture deficit in some areas, untimely hail or very strong winds could cause crop damage. Agricultural experts are monitoring the situation closely.

The coming 48 to 72 hours will be crucial. After this active spell, a gradual rise in temperatures is possible again unless another western disturbance or local system develops. The IMD is expected to issue updated bulletins daily based on evolving conditions.
