The Chhattisgarh government is expected to announce major infrastructure initiatives in the 2026–27 state budget, with a strong focus on developing sports facilities and improving urban traffic through the construction of ring roads in small and medium-sized cities. The budget session of the state विधानसभा is scheduled to begin on February 23, and the annual financial statement is likely to be presented on February 27.
According to sources familiar with budget preparations, the government aims to strengthen basic urban infrastructure while trimming allocations for non-essential schemes across departments. The proposed measures are part of a broader strategy to promote balanced regional development and ease congestion in growing urban centres.
One of the key proposals under consideration is the construction of playgrounds and sports complexes in smaller towns. The government is planning to install a statue of Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh at the International Cricket Stadium in Naya Raipur, with an estimated allocation of ₹1.86 crore. In addition, a new sports complex is proposed in Nagar Panchayat Pakhanjur.
The budget may also include funds for the construction of a mini indoor stadium in Duldula, estimated to cost around ₹5 crore. Further, ₹1 crore is expected to be allocated to complete pending works at the indoor stadium of the First Battalion in Durg. Renovation of the existing indoor stadium in Sarangarh is also likely to receive financial support.
A major highlight of the upcoming budget could be the proposal to build ring roads in large Nagar Panchayats and municipal areas across the state. The government is reportedly considering an allocation of nearly ₹100 crore for this initiative, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity within urban limits.
In the education and social welfare sectors, funds may be earmarked for setting up Nalanda libraries in districts where such facilities are yet to be established. Substantial allocations are also expected for flagship central schemes, including the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, with combined provisions likely to touch ₹2,000 crore.
Officials indicate that the focus of the 2026–27 budget will be on long-term asset creation, urban mobility, and access to sports and educational infrastructure, while maintaining fiscal discipline through rationalisation of existing expenditures.
