Chhattisgarh Cabinet Meets Ahead of Budget Session; Key Policy Decisions Likely

The Chhattisgarh Council of Ministers convened on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, just ahead of the upcoming state विधानसभा budget session. The meeting is being seen as crucial, with major policy and financial decisions for the 2026–27 fiscal year expected to be discussed and finalized.

Held shortly before the presentation of the state budget, the cabinet meeting is focused on setting government priorities, approving new schemes, and reviewing financial allocations. Several departments, including the finance department, have prepared proposals that are being placed before the council for discussion. Proposals receiving cabinet approval may either be incorporated into the budget or issued separately through official notifications.

All cabinet ministers and senior officials are participating in the deliberations.

Key sectors under discussion

According to sources, detailed discussions are likely on matters related to agriculture, irrigation, education, healthcare, rural development, urban administration, infrastructure, and social security. The cabinet is also expected to review the progress of centrally sponsored schemes, the state’s financial position, and revenue collection trends.

Progress reports on flagship state government schemes may also be presented. Schemes requiring additional budgetary allocations are expected to be examined, and deliberations may be held on finalizing certain new announcements so they can be included in the forthcoming budget.

Administrative proposals also on agenda

In addition to policy matters, the cabinet may consider several administrative decisions, including departmental restructuring, creation of new posts, and appointment-related proposals. Some proposals requiring legislative approval could also be cleared at the cabinet level before being tabled in the Assembly.

The government’s effort appears aimed at streamlining major decisions before the budget session begins, ensuring smoother legislative proceedings.

Details of the decisions taken during the meeting will be shared officially after its conclusion. Minister Arun Sao is expected to brief the media, after which it will become clear which proposals have received approval and what new provisions may feature in the state budget.

Political and administrative circles are closely watching the meeting, as its outcomes are likely to shape Chhattisgarh’s policy direction and development agenda for the coming financial year.
