The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Chhattisgarh is set to hold a crucial meeting on Sunday ahead of the five-day Monsoon Session of the State Assembly beginning July 13. The meeting, scheduled for 5 pm at the official residence of Leader of Opposition Dr. Charan Das Mahant in Raipur, is expected to finalise the party's strategy for the upcoming session.

Among the key issues likely to be discussed is the possibility of moving a no-confidence motion against the BJP government. Party leaders are expected to take a final call on the proposal after deliberating on the political and legislative strategy for the session.

Opposition Strategy in Focus

The meeting comes shortly after the ruling BJP held its own strategy session, with both sides preparing for what is expected to be a politically charged Assembly session despite its relatively short duration.

Congress legislators are expected to identify priority issues that will be raised in the House and coordinate their approach to questioning the government on governance and administrative matters.

Key Public Issues to Dominate Discussion

According to party sources, the Congress is likely to focus on a range of issues affecting the state. These include the alleged demolition of houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Nakti village, the state's law and order situation, alleged misuse of investigative agencies, shortage of fertilisers for farmers, agricultural challenges, rising electricity tariffs, women's safety, unemployment and delays in government recruitment processes.

The party believes these issues reflect growing public concerns and intends to press the government for answers during the Assembly proceedings.

Five-Day Assembly Session Begins July 13

The Monsoon Session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly will commence on July 13 and continue for five days. Although brief, the session is expected to witness intense debates as the opposition prepares to challenge the government on multiple policy and governance issues, while the treasury benches gear up to defend their record.

Political observers expect discussions on agriculture, infrastructure, public welfare schemes and administrative decisions to feature prominently during the session.

Government to Respond to Over 1,000 Questions

The Assembly Secretariat has received a total of 1,033 questions for the Monsoon Session. As many as 36 MLAs have submitted the maximum permissible 20 questions each under Assembly rules.

Interestingly, questions have been submitted by legislators from both the opposition and the ruling party, meaning the government will be required to respond on a broad range of departmental issues during the session.

No-Confidence Motion May Become Political Flashpoint

One of the major decisions expected from the Congress meeting is whether to formally introduce a no-confidence motion against the state government.

A no-confidence motion is moved against the Council of Ministers as a whole when the opposition seeks to challenge the government's functioning. If admitted by the Speaker, the Assembly holds a detailed discussion on the issues raised before members vote to determine whether the government continues to enjoy the confidence of the House.

While such motions rarely alter the numerical strength of governments with a comfortable majority, they provide the opposition an opportunity to place governance issues at the centre of legislative debate.

With both the ruling BJP and the Congress finalising their floor strategies, the Monsoon Session is expected to witness sharp exchanges over governance, public welfare and administrative accountability.
