Chhattisgarh High Court Issues Contempt Notice to SSP

The High Court has issued a contempt notice to Senior Superintendent of Police Bilaspur Rajnesh Singh for delaying the payment of leave encashment of retired policemen. The single bench of Justice Ravindra Agarwal has issued this notice and sought a reply, considering it a disregard of the order.

A total of 33 policemen including retired Assistant Sub Inspector Baijnath Rai, Inspector Raghunandan Sharma, Assistant Sub Inspector Hanuman Prasad Mishra from the Police Department had filed a petition in the Chhattisgarh High Court demanding the benefit of 300 days leave encashment like Madhya Pradesh state. Advocates Dhirendra Pandey and Vijay Mishra, pleading on behalf of the petitioners, had argued that like the employees of Madhya Pradesh, the policemen of Chhattisgarh should also get the benefit of 300 days leave encashment.

While hearing the case on 29 January 2025, the High Court had directed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Bilaspur to resolve the representation of the petitioners within 90 days in accordance with the order of the Supreme Court in the Fagua Ram case and pay the amount of leave encashment.
