Congress High Command Calls Chhattisgarh Leaders to Delhi for Strategy Meet on MGNREGA, SIR and Protests

The Congress high command has summoned senior Chhattisgarh leaders to New Delhi for a crucial strategy meeting aimed at reviewing organisational issues and finalising the party’s roadmap on key public concerns, including MGNREGA and the SIR issue. The meeting will be held at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters on Tuesday evening and will be chaired by senior leader Rahul Gandhi.

Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, former deputy chief minister T.S. Singh Deo, state Congress president Deepak Baij and Leader of Opposition Dr Charandas Mahant are scheduled to attend. Several other state-level office bearers who are already in Delhi are also expected to participate, according to party sources.

The meeting comes at a time when the Congress is seeking to sharpen its political pitch in Chhattisgarh following recent organisational changes and renewed efforts to mobilise cadres at the grassroots level. Sources said the leadership will take stock of the current political situation in the state and assess the party’s preparedness for upcoming political challenges.

According to party insiders, discussions will focus on pending organisational appointments, coordination among senior leaders and the planning of statewide programmes. Issues related to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the SIR matter are expected to feature prominently, as the party plans to intensify its opposition to the state government on livelihood and administrative concerns.

“The leadership wants a clear, time-bound plan for protests and mass outreach,” a senior Congress functionary said, indicating that the party is preparing for a series of agitations and demonstrations in the coming weeks. The meeting is also expected to outline strategies to activate district- and block-level units and strengthen the party’s presence in key regions.

Rahul Gandhi’s direct involvement is being seen as significant, signalling the central leadership’s focus on Chhattisgarh. Party leaders said the objective is to ensure better coordination between the state unit and the central leadership, while aligning state-level campaigns with the Congress’s national narrative.

Deepak Baij is expected to present a detailed report on recent organisational activities and programmes, while Bhupesh Baghel and T.S. Singh Deo are likely to share inputs based on their administrative and political experience. Dr Mahant will also brief the leadership on legislative and opposition-related matters.

Party sources indicated that decisions taken at the meeting could be followed by a formal announcement outlining the Congress’s next phase of political activity in Chhattisgarh. With protests and public campaigns on the anvil, the meeting is being viewed as strategically important for shaping the party’s course in the state over the next few months.
