Congress Rally to

In a powerful show of opposition, the Congress party held a "Save the Constitution" rally in Durg, where senior leaders sharply criticized the BJP government.

The rally stretched about two kilometers from Rajiv Bhavan to Hindi Bhavan and echoed with slogans like “Jai Bapu,” “Jai Bhim,” and “Jai Samvidhan.” The event was organized under the direction of the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress, with joint participation from Durg Rural, Durg Urban, and Bhilai City Congress units.

Addressing the gathering, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel stated that the ability to speak freely and criticize the government exists only because of the Constitution. “But the BJP wants to change the Constitution because it cannot tolerate dissent,” he said.

Baghel accused the BJP-led central government of fearing the Constitution because it empowers Dalits, Adivasis, women, and the poor. He emphasized that the balance between the judiciary, executive, and legislature is only possible because of the Constitution.

On Caste Census:

Bhupesh Baghel also questioned the BJP’s changing stance on the caste-based census. “They have always opposed it, but now for electoral gains, they are pretending to support it. The Congress, on the other hand, has consistently fought for it,” he added.

Allegations of Misusing Agencies:

He further alleged that whenever Congress speaks out against the government, central agencies like the ED, Income Tax, and CBI are misused to intimidate them. “When Congress workers didn’t fear the British, why would they fear BJP’s dark conspiracies?” Baghel remarked sharply.

The event was attended by several senior Congress leaders including Tamradhwaj Sahu, Ravindra Choubey, Arun Vora, Devendra Yadav, and Mukesh Chandrakar. The rally ended with a renewed pledge to protect the Constitution and resist the BJP’s policies.
