CRPF SI Duped of ₹22 Lakh in Digital Arrest Scam

A CRPF Sub-Inspector fell victim to a ‘digital arrest’ scam, losing ₹22 lakh over 17 days to a fraudster posing as a government official. The case highlights rising cyber fraud threats.
Another case of digital arrest has come to light in the district. This time a CRPF sub-inspector lost Rs 22 lakh due to a fraud call. After registering an FIR in the case, Gandhinagar police station has started investigation.
According to the information, the fraud caller introduced himself as from Telecom Department of India, Delhi, to SI R Mahendra posted in CRPF camp located under Gandhi Nagar police station area and said that a SIM has been taken from your Aadhaar, in which illegal work is being done. The SIM will be blocked in 2 hours, the report of which is being made to Delhi Police.
SI R Mahendra fell into the trap of the fraud caller and for 17 days the fraud caller took advantage of the fear and cheated him of Rs 22 lakh. On realizing that he was cheated, the SI has lodged an FIR in Gandhinagar police station, after which the police is engaged in investigation.
