Drunk Helper Drives Bus Through City in Jashpur: Crashes Into House, Hits Youth; Accused Detained

A shocking incident unfolded in Jashpur on Tuesday evening when a helper of the “Sunny Bus” service allegedly drove the vehicle across the city while under the influence of dendrite-based intoxicants. Eyewitnesses reported that the helper, who had taken the bus out to park it at the stand, was heavily intoxicated and lost control soon after starting the vehicle.

The bus first rammed into the main gate of a house near a temple on Sana Road. Despite the impact, the vehicle did not stop. The helper continued driving at high speed, taking the bus through Maharaj Chowk, Devi Mandir, the district hospital area, the police station premises, and even past the collectorate office before heading toward Gamharia Road.

Police Detain the Helper

Throughout the route, pedestrians and motorists scrambled to escape the speeding bus. The vehicle later returned toward the city via Girang Mor. On the river-side road, it struck a young man from Baghema village with great force, leaving him critically injured. Even after the collision, the bus continued moving.

It finally came to a halt only after getting stuck in a roadside pit a short distance away. Police teams led by Station In-Charge Deshmukh, along with officers Rampratap Yadav and Ravi Ram, reached the location and brought the situation under control. The intoxicated helper was taken into custody, and the injured youth was rushed to the district hospital.

Victim in Critical Condition

The youth’s condition remains critical. Preliminary police inquiry revealed that the helper had no driving license and was illegally driving the bus while intoxicated. The “Sunny Bus” has been seized, and further legal proceedings are underway.
