In Korba, the body of a 50-year-old man was discovered early Wednesday near a cattle shelter in Bandhapali village under the Kartala police station limits, triggering concern among residents and prompting a forensic investigation. Authorities suspect electrocution as the possible cause of death, though confirmation awaits the post-mortem report.
The deceased was identified as Bahadur Singh Agaria, a local farmer. Villagers who found the body around 4 a.m. reported burn marks on his face and what appeared to be a fractured leg, raising suspicion about the circumstances surrounding the death. Police and a forensic team reached the scene shortly after being alerted and collected physical evidence for analysis.
According to Prateek Chaturvedi, a city superintendent of police, statements from family members indicate the victim frequently visited farmland located near the cattle shelter. Investigators believe he may have gone there late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning and accidentally came into contact with a live wire, leading to a fatal electric shock.
Residents said they noticed the body while heading out for farm work at dawn and immediately informed the family and authorities. The discovery quickly drew a crowd, intensifying speculation until police secured the site.
Officials are now examining how an electrical wire came to be laid near the cattle shelter and whether it had been installed illegally or without safeguards. Determining who placed the wire and for what purpose forms a key part of the ongoing inquiry.
Police have registered a case and begun a detailed investigation to establish the exact timeline and circumstances of the incident. Authorities stressed that the final cause of death will only be confirmed after medical examination results are received.
The incident has renewed attention on rural electrical safety practices in Chhattisgarh, particularly the risks posed by exposed or unauthorized wiring in agricultural areas.
