Fake Healer Arrested for Raping Minor in Durg: Exploited Exorcism Ritual to Lure and Assault Victim

Police apprehended the suspect within 24 hours of the complaint being registered.

A disturbing incident of sexual assault on a minor has come to light in Durg district, Chhattisgarh. The girl's mother, seeking help for her daughter's ailment, invited a self-styled traditional healer known as a Baiga from neighboring Bemetara district. The man arrived on December 22, assessed the child, attributed her illness to "evil influences," and staged a sham ritual. He then deceived her into leaving the house with him, claiming he needed to discard a lemon used in the ceremony.

The case is registered under Nandini Nagar police station limits. The perpetrator, identified as Parmeshwar Baghel (25), alias Badu Baiga, led the minor to an isolated nursery nearby, where he coerced and raped her after issuing threats.

Frightened by his warnings, the victim stayed quiet for two days before opening up to her mother. The family promptly reported the matter to authorities, leading to the accused's swift arrest.

Report Filed the Previous Day

Details indicate that the mother lodged the formal complaint on December 24. She recounted summoning Parmeshwar Baghel from Parsbod village in Bemetara for ritualistic healing and treatment of her unwell minor daughter on December 22.

The accused, upon reaching the residence, diagnosed an "external evil force" and conducted a mock exorcism. He subsequently persuaded the girl to accompany him to a distant nursery under the guise of properly disposing of the ritual lemon.

In the secluded spot, he intimidated her into submission, committed the rape, and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident—causing her initial silence out of sheer panic.

Survivor Spoke Up After Two Days; Family Alerted Police Immediately

Only after enduring two days of trauma did the girl share her harrowing experience with her mother. The relatives then rushed to Nandini Nagar police station to file the report.

Officers registered the FIR, launched a probe, and nabbed the suspect on December 25 (Thursday), remanding him to judicial custody.

Perpetrator Presented Himself as Prominent Traditional Healer

The 25-year-old from Parsbod, Bemetara, admitted to the offense during questioning.

Probe findings show that the man frequently toured the region, boasting of his prowess as a Baiga practitioner capable of curing ailments via occult methods. His claims earned him easy trust from locals, a vulnerability he ruthlessly exploited to target and assault the vulnerable minor.
