A short circuit caused a fire late last night at the Durga Pandal at Bharat Mata Chowk in Kawardha. The fire, which started at the rear of the pandal, destroyed the idol of Goddess Durga inside.
Four devotees present at the pandal escaped in time when the fire broke out. Upon receiving the information, the fire brigade team immediately arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control. While the rear portion of the pandal was reduced to ashes, the front portion remained unscathed.
It should be noted that the impressive and grand Durga Pandal was built for the first time at Bharat Mata Chowk, which had become a center of attraction for devotees. The fire has shocked and distraught both the organizing committee and the devotees.
