Fire Breaks Out in Mud House in Kanker

A mud house in Puri village of Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district caught fire late on 14 November, sparking panic in the locality. The blaze broke out around 10 p.m. in the premises of Suraj Sahu, whose mud house was engulfed in flames within minutes. The family, who were inside their adjacent concrete house, rushed out after hearing loud crackling sounds similar to firecrackers.

On stepping outside, they saw the mud house burning intensely. Villagers from the neighbourhood and nearby hamlets quickly gathered and began efforts to control the fire. With no time to spare, they connected pipes to the nearest tubewell and started dousing the flames.

Because the structure was entirely made of mud and thatch, the fire spread rapidly, making it difficult to control. After nearly two hours of continuous effort, villagers finally managed to extinguish the blaze.

House Severely Damaged, No Casualties

Fortunately, no one was inside the mud house at the time of the incident, preventing any loss of life or major injury. However, a significant portion of the house was destroyed in the fire. Villagers immediately informed Charama police about the incident.

Short-Circuit Suspected

Residents said the fire brigade was not called due to the long distance between the village and the district headquarters, which would have resulted in a delayed response.

The exact cause of the fire has yet to be established, though preliminary suspicion points to a spark or electrical short-circuit. Local authorities have taken note of the incident, and an investigation is underway.
