Government Reclaims Disputed Church Land in Capital

After years of legal dispute over unauthorized commercial activities, the government has reclaimed a prime piece of land previously allocated to the church in the capital.

The state government is now taking possession of about 6 acres of land allotted to the United Church of Northern India Trust in front of the Raj Bhavan during the British era. The divisional commissioner has issued an order to the Raipur collector after the lease period ended due to commercial use of the property. Through this order, the valuable property known as Gaus Memorial and Babar Bungalow in Civil Line will be given to the state government.

Actually, there was a dispute over commercial activities. Some organizations had opened a front against it, and the matter was pending before the government for eight years. After the order of the state government, the local administration started the process of taking possession of Babar Bungalow by building a boundary wall.
