On the second day of the Chhattisgarh Assembly’s winter session, the government is set to face pointed questions on key issues related to the energy sector, the Mahatari Vandan Yojana and mineral resources. During Question Hour, both ruling party and opposition legislators will seek direct answers from the government, raising the likelihood of sharp exchanges and disruptions in the House.
Questions linked to the Energy Department will focus on electricity supply, transformer shortages in rural areas, line losses and the government’s strategy for new power projects. The opposition is expected to corner the government over power cuts, electricity tariffs and infrastructure gaps, while the ruling BJP will highlight its policies and claimed improvements in the sector.
The Mahatari Vandan Yojana is also likely to come under scrutiny. Legislators are expected to question the scheme’s implementation, including issues related to eligibility, delays in payments, the number of beneficiaries and the overall impact of the financial assistance being provided to women. Congress MLAs are preparing to flag what they describe as shortcomings in execution, while the government is expected to defend the scheme as a major step towards women’s empowerment.
Issues related to mineral resources will form another major part of the day’s agenda. Discussions are expected on mining leases, royalty collection, illegal mining and employment opportunities for local communities in mineral-rich areas. The opposition plans to seek clarity on mineral revenue and transparency in the sector, while pressing the government for accountability.
The second day of the session, being held in the new, paperless Assembly building at Naya Raipur, is expected to be more charged than the opening day. On Sunday, proceedings remained relatively subdued, with discussions centred on Vision 2047 and the Congress boycotting the House, while BJP legislators and Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary outlined the government’s “Nava Anjor Vision 2047”.
With Question Hour bringing the treasury benches and opposition face to face, the House is expected to witness intense debate and political sparring. The developments on Monday are being seen as a key test of the government’s preparedness to respond on governance, welfare delivery and resource management during the winter session.
