HC Slams Food Poisoning in Kids’ Meals, FIR Registered, Notice to 15

The High Court expressed strong displeasure over negligence in children’s food, citing incidents from dog leftovers to phenyl tablets. An FIR has been registered and notices issued to 15 people.

The incident of phenyl being found in the plates of innocent children of residential Potakebin school in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh has shaken the entire state. The administration has lodged an FIR in the case under section 109 (attempt to murder) of BNS. A teacher has been taken into custody. The High Court has considered this case as gross negligence and has directly ordered the Chief Secretary to monitor it. The incident has also taken a political turn and the opposition has surrounded the government, calling it a play with the lives of children. The police have taken into custody Dhananjay Sahu, a teacher posted in Pakela Potakebin school. However, before the arrest, Sahu alleged that he was being deliberately framed and the Potakebin superintendent has a grudge against him. Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha said during the hearing of the PIL on Tuesday- 'After serving dog's leftover food, now phenyl mixed food is being given to the children. What is going on in the state's schools right now. Chief Justice said- This is not a small, but a very big negligence. If there were casualties, it would have been difficult to handle the situation.' He directed to get the entire matter investigated under the supervision of the District Magistrate. Also asked the Chief Secretary of the state to monitor continuously. He said that a thorough investigation should be done to find out who is responsible for this incident.

Notice to 15 responsible persons

Notice has been issued to 15 officials including Chhindgarh BEO-BRC, Pota Cabin Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. According to DMC Uma Shankar Tiwari, a written complaint of the matter has been lodged in the police station.

Education Minister gave instructions for investigation

School Education Minister Gajendra Yadav took immediate cognizance of the matter of adding phenyl in the food of children in the residential Pota cabin in Sukma and directed the collector to investigate. He told the collector that this is a criminal case. Strict action should be taken against those responsible while conducting a police investigation. No one should be spared in this. The Education Minister said that this is a criminal case. It should be investigated by the police. Apart from this, he also directed the District Education Officer of Sukma to reach the spot and take action after becoming aware of the facts.
