The Chhattisgarh High Court heard a noise pollution case on Tuesday. The court directed the Chief Secretary to ensure strict compliance with the government's affidavit submitted earlier and take necessary action in this regard. The government stated that necessary amendments to the provisions of the Noise Act are being made. The next hearing is scheduled for October 16th.
During the hearing, the government stated that a government committee held an important meeting on the issue of noise control and directed the Chhattisgarh Environment Protection Board to propose draft amendments to the Noise Control Act, 1985. Following this, the Board prepared a draft of the proposed amendments to the Noise Control Act, 1985, and sent it to the Secretary, Housing and Environment Department, by letter dated August 13, 2025.
During the meeting held on August 14th, the committee members reviewed the draft of the proposed amendments to the Noise Control Act, 1985, submitted by the Environment Board. The members and representatives of various departments present at the meeting were requested to obtain final approval and comments from their respective secretaries and submit the draft of the proposed amendments recommended by the committee to the next meeting on September 15, 2025, to finalize it.
The High Court stated that steps are being taken to amend the Noise Pollution Regulation and Control Rules, 2000, in accordance with the Noise Control Act, 1985, and that the State Government is actively considering the matter. The affidavit also indicates that the matter is pending before the Home Department. The State Counsel argued that the Home Department will take necessary action in this matter, and accordingly, the necessary action should be taken.
