Police in Raipur arrested alleged history-sheeter Rohit Tomar in connection with a 2019 criminal case after executing a permanent arrest warrant issued by a court. Officers from the local Kotwali unit detained him on Saturday and produced him before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. He was granted bail on Monday.
According to investigators, Tomar had been absconding for an extended period despite facing multiple serious charges. Cases registered against him include provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to criminal intimidation, assault, extortion, and harassment. Police said they had been searching for him for months following the issuance of the warrant.
Officials added that in a separate assault case registered at a local police station, his arrest remains stayed under orders of the Supreme Court of India. In that matter, Tomar had resurfaced in the city after remaining on the run for more than six months but could not be taken into custody due to the court’s directive. However, the warrant in the Kotwali case enabled police to detain him.
Authorities noted that this is not his first encounter with law enforcement. He has previously faced action in several criminal matters and has been jailed in the past. In one earlier high-profile incident involving a shooting case outside a club, police had publicly escorted him to jail after his arrest. Investigators claim he again went into hiding in 2025 following another assault allegation.
Police say they are continuing to monitor his activities and will pursue pending cases through due legal process.
