Influential names emerge in Bilaspur firing case; Police intensify search for weapon supplier gang amid probe into attack on Congress leader

Police have arrested all the accused involved in the firing incident targeting Congress leader and Janpad Vice President Nitesh Singh. During interrogation, the names of several influential individuals from the city have surfaced, and action against them is reportedly being planned. Police officials claim that the entire conspiracy behind the attack will soon be exposed.

The shooting took place on the evening of October 28 in the Sarkanda police station area, when former Youth Congress Vice President Vishwajit Anant and his associates allegedly launched a deadly attack on Nitesh Singh. The assailants reportedly fired around 14 rounds, injuring two people in the process.

Linked to election rivalry and land dispute

Preliminary investigation indicates that the attack stemmed from political rivalry and a land dispute. After losing the Janpad Vice President election, Vishwajit and his group allegedly targeted Nitesh Singh. Police are now trying to trace the source of the pistols and country-made firearms used in the attack.

Seven accused, including mastermind, arrested

Acting swiftly, the police arrested seven accused within 24 hours, including mastermind Vishwajit Anant. Four of the accused have been remanded to custody till November 2, while the juvenile offenders have been sent to a juvenile correction home. Interrogations are underway to identify the weapon supply chain involved in the case.

Action likely against influential figures

According to police sources, during questioning, the accused have mentioned the names of certain prominent local figures who may have played a role in the conspiracy. Though the names have not been made public yet, officials have hinted that comprehensive and uncompromising action will be taken this time.

Weapon supply network under probe

Investigations have revealed that the firearms were procured through an organized weapon supplier gang. Police have intensified search operations and raids to locate the network and expect to recover several illegal weapons in the coming days.

Two motorcycles recovered

Based on information provided by the accused, police have recovered two motorcycles used during the attack, which had been hidden at separate locations after the incident.

Additional SP (Rural) Archana Jha stated that continuous interrogations are underway and every aspect of the case is being thoroughly investigated.
