Initiative for Empowering Tribal Women: Chhattisgarh Launches Dairy Animal Rearing Scheme
Kondagaon, CG
With the aim of promoting women empowerment and dairy farming in rural and tribal regions, the Government of Chhattisgarh has launched a new Dairy Animal Rearing Scheme. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai formally inaugurated the scheme in Bhongapal village of Kondagaon district. On this occasion, he performed rituals at the ancient Shiva temple and distributed high-yielding Sahiwal breed cows to women beneficiaries.
In the first phase of the scheme, cows were handed over to Sanita Netam and Parvati Netam from Masoura village. The program is being implemented with support from the National Dairy Development Board.
Pilot Project in Six Districts
The scheme has initially been launched as a pilot project in six districts of Chhattisgarh—Jashpur, Balrampur, Kanker, Kondagaon, Mahasamund, and Sarangarh-Bilaigarh. Operated through the Chhattisgarh State Cooperative Dairy Federation, the plan will provide a total of 650 milch cows to 325 Scheduled Tribe women. Each beneficiary will receive two high-yield Sahiwal cows.
Objective: Women Empowerment and Increased Milk Production
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai called the initiative a major step toward making women self-reliant. He said, “When women are economically empowered, the entire family and society become stronger. This scheme will not only create employment opportunities for women but also boost milk production in the state.”
Presence of Officials and Public Representatives
The launch event was attended by Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, Keshkal MLA Neelkanth Tekam, and several senior officials. They praised the initiative, stating that it will create sustainable livelihood opportunities in rural areas and strengthen nutritional security.
