Investigation Launched Against Chhattisgarh IPS Officer
Bilaspur,C.G
An inquiry has been initiated against a senior IPS officer in Chhattisgarh over alleged misconduct. Authorities are reviewing the charges as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Union Home Ministry has written a letter to the Chief Secretary and the Secretary of the Union Public Service Commission for an inquiry against the IPS award to Yashpal Singh, who became an IPS officer after merging from the BSF to the state police. IPS Yashpal is currently the Superintendent of Police of Mohla-Manpur district. It is alleged that he has been awarded IPS even after the investigation in the EOW is pending.
A media report claimed that 'The Union Home Ministry has said that the role of the ministry in the IPS award is limited. Still, immediate action is needed in view of the seriousness of the allegations. Raipur social activist Vivek Kumar Singh had complained to the Prime Minister's Office against the IPS award to Yashpal Singh'.
The PMO sent this letter to the Union Home Ministry. The complainant has demanded a CBI inquiry into it. It is alleged that seniority has been wrongly given by bypassing the rules in this process. The Chhattisgarh State Economic Offenses Wing is also investigating against Yashpal Singh. Despite this, in the year 2019, UPSC included him in the IPS selection committee and later the IPS award was also approved by the central government. Chhattisgarh PSC and Police Officers Association had described the appointment of Yashpal Singh as 'against the cadre system'. Chhattisgarh PSC had also raised objections to the merger of the BSF officer into the state police. On the complaint, the Union Home Ministry has issued a letter on June 13, 2025 and directed the Chief Secretary and UPSC Secretary to investigate the matter. It has also been asked to find out whether there were irregularities in the appointment process and whether UPSC was aware of the EOW investigation against Yashpal Singh?
