Irregularities Found in ‘Mahanadi Jal’ Packaged Drinking Water: Notice Issued to Operator in Balodabazar

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in Balodabazar has issued a notice to the operator of the ‘Mahanadi Jal’ packaged drinking water unit after irregularities were detected during an inspection. The action was taken on the instructions of the FDA Controller and Collector Deepak Soni.

A team led by Food Safety Officer Kachan Verma conducted a surprise inspection at the unit located in village Matia (Tendumatha), under Janpad Panchayat Karadol. The facility was producing packaged drinking water under the brand name ‘Mahanadi Jal’.

Violation of Food Safety Standards

During the inspection, the pouches kept for sale were found without essential details such as manufacturing date, expiry date, and batch number. This violates the Food Safety and Standards Act and is considered a case of misbranding.

Notice Issued to the Unit Operator

The unit’s operator, Gajpal Sahu, has been asked to respond to the notice. The violations listed include:

  • Missing mandatory information on packets

  • Poor hygiene and cleanliness at the premises

  • Employees lacking valid fitness certificates

  • Failure to provide required laboratory-related documents

Samples of ‘Mahanadi Jal’ have been sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory in Raipur. Further action will be taken based on the test report.
