Manager attacked with sword; police launch manhunt
A jewelry store manager in Raipur was robbed of approximately ₹1 crore in cash and valuables on Tuesday evening. The armed robbery occurred near Tiladadih when the manager was caught in heavy rain and hail.
The Incident
Tikaram Sharma, 32, works as manager for Mahavir Jewelers, which operates two branches in the Kharora area. On Tuesday around 7 pm, Sharma was traveling between branches carrying a bag of gold and silver jewelry. Due to heavy rain and windstorms, he stopped his vehicle near Tiladadih.
When the weather cleared and he attempted to resume his journey, two to three men on a motorcycle approached him. They attacked Sharma with a sword, injuring him on the head. Within seconds, they snatched the jewelry bag and fled the scene.
Investigation Underway
Sharma was admitted to a nearby hospital with serious head injuries. Police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving word of the robbery. The Kharora police station registered a case and began searching the area for suspects.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras to identify the attackers. Initial investigations suggest the robbery was planned, as the criminals appeared to know Sharma's route and timing.
"We are confident the suspects will be arrested soon," said a police officer at Kharora station. "We are examining all angles of the investigation."
Security Concerns
The incident has raised alarm in the local jewelry trading community. Mahavir Jewelers has not yet commented on the robbery or changes to security measures.
Police have set up checkpoints in the surrounding area and are continuing their search for the suspects.
