The matter of illegal collection from Kumhari toll plaza in Chhattisgarh has now reached a serious turn. Former Congress MLA Vikas Upadhyay has opened a front against this toll plaza. He had earlier written a letter to 10 BJP MPs and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari regarding this matter. After this, Vikas Upadhyay also protested strongly against the toll plaza.
On Sunday, former MLA Vikas Upadhyay met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur regarding Kumhari toll plaza. During this, Vikas Upadhyay told the minister in detail about the illegal collection going on there despite the expiry of the toll plaza tender and submitted an application. After the conversation, the Union Minister assured to take action to close the toll plaza soon.
Former MLA Vikas Upadhyay said that a detailed discussion was held at the personal residence of Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur regarding the demand to close the Kumhari toll plaza. Citing the rule clause, he said that two toll plazas should not be operated within a radius of 60 kilometers, but these rules are being flouted in Chhattisgarh. Along with Kumhari toll plaza, there are other toll plazas in Chhattisgarh which come under the radius of 60 km and how these illegal toll plazas are being operated.

Taking the words of former MLA Vikas Upadhyay seriously, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured that Kumhari toll plaza will be closed very soon. He also said that information about other toll plazas of Chhattisgarh will be sought and a decision will be taken on that too. Earlier, Minister Nitin Gadkari had said in the Lok Sabha that no toll plaza will be operated within the radius of 60 km, but these rules are not being followed in Chhattisgarh.
