Land for Job Scam: Delhi Court Frames Charges Against Lalu Yadav, Family Ahead of Bihar Polls

In a major setback for Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has framed charges against him, wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi Yadav, and 11 others in the Land for Job scam.

The ruling on October 13, 2025, highlights evidence of corruption during Lalu's 2004-2009 tenure as Union Railway Minister, where jobs were allegedly traded for land at nominal prices benefiting his family.

The CBI special court stated the scam occurred with Lalu's knowledge, directly profiting his kin. Charges include IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy), plus Prevention of Corruption Act provisions against Lalu. Rabri and Tejashwi face conspiracy and cheating accusations, exempt from corruption clauses. CBI presented substantial evidence, including land deeds and job records.

The case alleges irregular Group D railway appointments in exchange for prime Bihar lands transferred to Yadav family members via proxies. Properties worth crores were acquired for lakhs, with ED estimating Rs.600 crore in laundered proceeds. Investigations began in 2017, leading to 2022 FIRs, raids, and chargesheets naming 78 accused.

Lalu, convicted earlier in the Fodder Scam, denies wrongdoing, labeling it BJP-orchestrated vendetta. Tejashwi, RJD's face for Bihar Assembly elections 2025, vows legal fight amid promises of jobs for youth.

Politically, this timing jolts RJD ahead of November polls. Analysts predict voter erosion in Yadav-Muslim base, boosting NDA's Nitish Kumar and BJP. Issues like unemployment and caste census could sway outcomes, but corruption shadows RJD's campaign.

As trial commences, Bihar watches if this ends Lalu's dynasty or fuels resilience. Stay updated on Bihar elections 2025, Lalu Yadav case developments.
