The Economic Offences Wing’s second challan exposes the creation of ₹5 crore worth of duplicate liquor holograms, distillers paying ₹600/case commission, ₹1,500 crore diverted “in the name of party fund,” and top Congress leader Lakhma allegedly received ₹20 crore monthly from the syndicate.
There have been some very important and shocking revelations in Chhattisgarh's Rs 2161 crore liquor scam. According to the supplementary challan of EOW, apart from former Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma, another big Congress leader used to get Rs 10 crore twice a month. Not only this, out of the amount received from the liquor scam, Rs 1500 crore has been given in the name of party fund, however, there is no mention in the diary as to which party this fund has been given, which the EOW is investigating.
The investigating agency said in the charge sheet that corruption started in the Excise Department from February 2019. In the initial months, a truck loaded with 800 boxes of liquor used to leave the distillery every month. One box was sold for Rs 2840. After that, 400 trucks of liquor started being supplied every month. This time, liquor started being sold for Rs 3880 per box. Preliminary investigation by EOW has revealed that more than 60 lakh boxes were sold illegally in a year.
