Brutal killing reported

A shocking Mahasamund murder has come to light from Mahasamund district, where a 27-year-old man allegedly killed his 21-year-old deaf and mute girlfriend after she revealed her pregnancy. The accused, identified as Loknath Patel, has been arrested by the police.

The incident, which occurred under the jurisdiction of Basna Police Station, has triggered outrage due to its brutality and the circumstances surrounding the crime.

Incident details emerge

According to police sources, the accused had been in a relationship with the victim for nearly a year. He allegedly lured her into a physical relationship on the promise of marriage.

When the woman became pregnant, reportedly two months along, she began pressuring him to marry her. This development, officials said, led to tension between the two.

Night of the crime

On the night of March 23, the victim reportedly went to meet the accused. Due to her inability to speak, she communicated through gestures, informing him about her pregnancy.

Investigators said that during the meeting, the accused attacked her with a stone, repeatedly striking her head and face. The assault proved fatal.

He later dumped the body in a nearby agricultural field, approximately 150 metres from her residence, and fled the spot.

Body found in field

The following morning, on March 24, the woman’s family began searching for her when she did not return home. Her body was eventually found lying in a blood-soaked condition in a field near their house.

Severe injuries were visible on her face and head, indicating a violent assault. The victim’s father immediately informed the police.

Police investigation begins

A team from Basna police station, along with a dog squad, reached the scene and initiated an investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem examination after completing legal formalities.

Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including murder charges, and began probing the matter.

Accused confesses crime

During the investigation, suspicion fell on Loknath Patel based on inputs provided by the victim’s family. He was taken into custody and questioned.

According to officials, the accused confessed to the crime during interrogation. He reportedly admitted that he feared social stigma and defamation if the pregnancy became public, which led him to commit the murder.

Arrest and legal action

Station House Officer Sharad Dubey stated that the accused has been formally arrested and produced before a court. He has been sent to judicial remand.

Police said further investigation is underway to establish all aspects of the case, including charges related to sexual exploitation under the pretext of marriage.
