A police constable’s home in Bhilai was robbed by his domestic help and her husband, who allegedly stole gold and silver jewellery along with cash. The couple was arrested on Sunday following an investigation by the Bhilai Bhatti police.
The incident took place at the residence of Rakesh Choudhary, a constable posted at the Cantonment police station and living in Sector-2. His maid, Saraswati Sahu (31), who handled daily household chores, allegedly conspired with her husband Sewak Ram Sahu (32) to commit the theft.
How the Theft Came to Light
On 16 November, Choudhary lodged a complaint, stating that he had kept jewellery and cash in his cupboard on 29 October. When he opened it on 5 November to take out jewellery for a wedding event, he found the items missing. Police registered a case and began probing all possible suspects.
Maid’s Behaviour Raised Suspicion
During questioning of staff and visitors, investigators became suspicious of Saraswati. When confronted strictly, she confessed to the crime. She revealed that between 29 October and 15 November, she entered the room multiple times and stole jewellery and cash from an unlocked cupboard.
She had handed over the stolen items to her husband for safekeeping.
