Major Bulldozer Action in Chhattisgarh Today: 150 Houses and Shops to Be Demolished

A massive anti-encroachment drive is set to take place in Chhattisgarh today, with the Municipal Corporation’s squad preparing to demolish around 150 illegally constructed houses and shops. Heavy security has been deployed in anticipation of resistance from locals.

The Municipal Corporation has started a large-scale action against encroachment. At 5 am on Sunday, the encroachment squad of the corporation reached Arpa Par Shanichari market with a bulldozer and demolished the platforms of more than 75 vegetable shops in Chantidih. Along with this, 20 houses and shops built by encroaching from Rapta to Amariya Chowk were also demolished. The local people strongly opposed this action and demanded the removal of the nearby liquor shop as well.

Bilaspur Municipal Corporation officials said that this action was necessary for road widening. The encroachment removal campaign will continue on Monday as well, in which 150 houses and shops will be demolished from Amariya Chowk to Apollo Hospital. Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar said, "The vegetable market is being shifted back. Platforms have been allotted to the affected 75 vegetable vendors on the spot. Alternative arrangements will also be made soon."
