Gaurela-Pendra-MarwahI, CG
In a significant operation, the Forest Department in Chhattisgarh’s Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district seized a large cache of illegally stored teak wood. Acting on a tip-off, forest officials raided Baladhar village and recovered 16 massive teak logs, each measuring between 21 to 30 feet in length.
A forest offense case has been registered against the accused, and the seized wood has been safely deposited at the Madna Depot’s timber warehouse for further action.
Raid Based on Confidential Tip-Off
According to officials, the department had been receiving intelligence about illegal teak wood storage and smuggling in Baladhar village for some time. Acting on the input, a team led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Greeshmi Chand conducted the raid.
The teak logs were found at the residence and backyard of local resident Mithlesh Suryavanshi. Preliminary investigation revealed that the trees had been felled without any legal permission.
Estimated Value in Lakhs
The seized teak is estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees. The Forest Department is currently assessing the total market value of the illegal timber. Teak, being a nationalized forest product, is protected under strict provisions of the Indian Forest Act, and its illegal felling is considered a serious offense.
Crackdown Intensifies, Monitoring Increased
Speaking to the media, DFO Greeshmi Chand stated that illegal felling and timber smuggling will not be tolerated. Surveillance has been increased in vulnerable forest areas, and those involved in such criminal activities will face strict legal action.
