Major Ganja Haul at UP-Chhattisgarh Border: 12 Quintals Seized from Truck

Police intercepted a truck at the Dhanwar barrier on the Uttar Pradesh-Chhattisgarh border Sunday night, seizing 12 quintals of ganja concealed in hay sacks and arresting three smugglers.

The consignment, sourced from Odisha, was en route to Uttar Pradesh. Officers grew suspicious during routine checks when the driver claimed the load was only hay. A thorough search revealed the drug packets hidden amid the fodder.

The three occupants attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended. Balrampur SP Vaibhav Banker confirmed the seizure, describing it as the largest ganja haul in the Surguja division to date. Interrogation revealed the smugglers, reportedly Uttar Pradesh residents, had crossed multiple police jurisdictions undetected by blending the contraband with legitimate cargo.

Basantpur police handle the case, with further probes into potential links to a larger interstate syndicate. Authorities plan a detailed briefing on the operation.Such busts highlight persistent smuggling routes from cannabis-producing regions in Odisha through Chhattisgarh to northern states.
