Police have busted a large-scale ganja (cannabis) smuggling network along the Chhattisgarh–Odisha border. During a vehicle inspection on Tuesday, Nagnarnar police seized 73 kilograms of cannabis from a truck, valued at around ₹7.3 lakh.
Cannabis Shipment Intercepted En Route to Madhya Pradesh
According to officials, the truck driver was transporting the illegal consignment from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the vehicle in the Nagnarnar area and discovered a significant quantity of narcotics during the search.
Operation Based on a Confidential Tip-Off
Police received information that a major cannabis shipment was being moved through the Nagnarnar region from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh. In response, officers set up checkpoints along the border and began intensive vehicle inspections. During the operation, a truck arriving from Odisha was stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of 73 kg of cannabis.
The driver, identified as Murad Sah (30), a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was taken into custody.
Case Registered Under NDPS Act
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Maheshwar Nag confirmed that a case has been filed against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The seized truck and contraband have been confiscated. After being presented before the court, the accused was sent to judicial custody.
Police suspect that the Odisha border route is being used to supply cannabis into Madhya Pradesh. Investigators are now working to trace others involved in the supply chain and trafficking network.
Tightened Security Along the Border
In recent months, there has been a steady rise in drug trafficking cases along the Chhattisgarh–Odisha border. As a result, police have intensified border patrols, vehicle checks, and surveillance to curb the illegal trade and dismantle the networks operating in the region.
