Major Victory Against Naxalites: Maoist Leader Basavaraju Among 27 Killed
In a significant blow to Naxalism, 27 Naxalites, including Maoist General Secretary Basavaraju, were killed in an encounter. CM Sai declared that Naxalism's backbone has been broken, marking a turning point in the fight against insurgency.
Raipur. Security forces have got historic success in the biggest operation ever conducted against Naxalites in the dense forests of Abujhmad in Chhattisgarh. District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel killed the general secretary and top leader of the Maoist organization Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju. A total of 27 Naxalites have been killed in this encounter. Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has described this major success as a step that broke the back of Naxalism and saluted the bravery of DRG soldiers.
CM Vishnudev Sai said that ever since we came to power, our soldiers are fighting Naxalism very strongly. Operations are being conducted continuously and we are also getting success. The head of the Maoists, who is called the general secretary - Basavaraju was killed by our soldiers. His death is a big blow to Naxalism, it has broken their back. This is a big success. We thank our DRG jawans and salute their bravery.
On 19 May 2025, joint teams of DRG left on the basis of strong information about the presence of Maoist leaders in the Abujhmad area spread on the borders of Narayanpur, Bijapur and Dantewada districts. On the morning of 21 May, the Maoists suddenly started firing, after which the security forces killed 27 Naxalites in retaliation.
Large quantity of weapons recovered
The security forces have recovered state-of-the-art weapons like AK-47, SLR, INSAS, carbine and a large quantity of ammunition from the encounter site. From this, the seriousness of the preparation of the Naxalites and their intentions can be gauged.
In this fierce encounter, one DRG jawan has been martyred, whose body has been brought to Narayanpur. Apart from this, some jawans have been injured, who have been kept out of danger by giving timely treatment.
