According to investigators, the suspect had been harassing the woman for nearly six years and continued to pressure her to speak with him even after she married in 2023 and moved to Raipur with her husband. She had recently returned to her parental home in the Nevai police station area for the Mahashivratri festival.
The attack occurred around 5 p.m. on Feb. 15 when the woman was returning home from Baikunthdham temple. Police said the man followed her into a lane near Inda Chowk, stopped her and attempted to start a conversation. When she refused, he allegedly threatened her and launched a sudden assault with a cutter.
Family members said the victim suffered deep injuries to her neck, wrist, cheek and ribs, requiring about 60 stitches. She is currently admitted to an intensive care unit, where doctors describe her condition as serious but stable.
Witnesses nearby intervened and managed to stop the attacker, preventing what relatives believe could have been a fatal assault. The victim later told her family that if she had not ducked at a crucial moment, the blow might have killed her.
Her sister said the accused had a history of stalking and intimidation, repeatedly loitering near their home and issuing threats to harm the family. Relatives allege he had also threatened the victim’s father and brother in the past.
Police confirmed a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Officers have assured the family that strict legal action will be taken. However, relatives said they remain anxious and want the harshest possible punishment to ensure the accused cannot harm anyone again.
