The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Devangan, a resident of Nayaganj Kostapara. According to his family, Abhishek was in a long-term relationship with a woman from the Kotra Road area. Four days before the incident, the woman reportedly married someone else, which left him deeply distressed.

Family members told police that Abhishek was unaware that the woman was involved with another person. After her marriage, she allegedly stopped communicating with him, worsening his emotional state. On the night of December 25, Abhishek took the extreme step, they said.

Following the incident, the family lodged a complaint at the city Kotwali police station and demanded action against the woman, alleging that emotional distress caused by the breakup led to the suicide. The body was sent for postmortem examination, after which the final rites were performed.

Abhishek’s younger brother, Paras Devangan, said his brother had been in a relationship for a long time and was emotionally invested. “He was shattered after learning about the marriage and became withdrawn in the last few days,” he said.

The deceased’s father, Sanjay Kumar Devangan, alleged that his son was betrayed and could not cope with the stress. He urged police to conduct a fair investigation and take strict action against those responsible.

Police officials said a preliminary inquiry has been initiated. The station in-charge stated that further action would be taken after the postmortem report is received and all facts are verified.
