Massive Fire Erupts in Bhatapara Vegetable Market: Short Circuit Sparks Blaze, Goods Worth Lakhs Destroyed

A massive fire broke out on Monday morning at the newly built vegetable market in Bhatapara Nagar Palika, Balodabazar district, allegedly caused by a short circuit.

The blaze, which began around 9:30 AM, gutted goods worth several lakhs of rupees before firefighters managed to bring it under control after nearly two hours of intense efforts.

Panic in Market as Flames Spread Rapidly

The sudden fire created panic among traders and vendors inside the market complex. Within minutes, thick black smoke enveloped the area, making it difficult for people to escape with their belongings. Three fire engines from the municipal council and Ambuja fire services were rushed to the spot and battled the flames for about two hours before completely dousing the fire.

Offices, AC Units, and Vegetable Crates Reduced to Ashes

According to preliminary estimates, the fire caused losses of nearly ₹50 lakh. Several market offices, air conditioners, sheds, and hundreds of vegetable crates stored beneath them were completely destroyed in the blaze.

Municipal Council President Ashwani Sharma reached the site to monitor the relief operations and coordinate firefighting efforts. Local municipal workers also joined hands with the fire brigade to help contain the fire.

No Casualties, Probe Underway

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, although initial findings point to a short circuit as the trigger.

The incident has left local traders in shock, with many estimating huge losses due to the destruction of stock and infrastructure. The municipal authorities assured affected shopkeepers of support and promised a detailed probe into the safety arrangements at the market.
