Mining, Overloading and Illegal Land Encroachments to Be Raised in Assembly Today

Smart City expenditure and Sirpur Festival accounts to be discussed; National Herald advertisement issue likely to surface

Raipur: Several key governance issues are expected to be raised during the Question Hour in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on Tuesday as the Budget Session continues. Matters related to mining, transport, cooperative affairs, revenue administration and forest management are likely to dominate the proceedings, with legislators seeking explanations from the government on multiple fronts.

Among the primary issues expected to be discussed is iron ore mining and the transportation of minerals across the state. Legislators are likely to question the government about regulatory mechanisms, monitoring systems and compliance with rules governing mining operations and mineral transport.

Questions related to the Transport Department are also expected to be raised, particularly regarding vehicle fitness permits and cases of overloading. Lawmakers may seek details on enforcement measures and actions taken by the department to curb violations and ensure road safety.

Forest management is another topic likely to be discussed in the House. Members are expected to ask about government plans to restore degraded forest areas and the progress of initiatives aimed at improving forest cover and ecological balance.

Issues related to illegal occupation of government land may also come up during the session. Legislators are expected to question the Revenue Department on the steps taken to identify and remove encroachments as well as the administrative mechanisms in place to prevent such cases.

In addition to these matters, BJP MLA Renuka Singh is expected to raise the issue of advertisements issued to the National Herald newspaper. She may ask the government to clarify under what circumstances and through which procedures these advertisements were approved and released.

During the attention motion segment, alleged irregularities in the beautification works carried out under the Raipur Smart City project are also likely to be discussed. BJP legislators Ajay Chandrakar, Dharamlal Kaushik and Dharamjeet Singh are expected to draw the Urban Administration Minister’s attention to the expenditure and implementation of the project. Questions may be raised regarding the scale of spending, work execution and monitoring mechanisms.

Another issue likely to be brought up through an attention motion is the income and expenditure related to the Sirpur Festival. MLA Dwarkadhish Yadav is expected to seek details about the funds spent on the event and the administrative arrangements associated with its organization.

The Assembly will also take up discussions on budgetary grant demands. These include departments handled by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Food Minister Dayaldas Baghel and Culture Minister Rajesh Agrawal. Legislators are expected to review the functioning and schemes of these departments while debating the proposed allocations.

Following recent disruptions in the House over issues such as paddy procurement, Tuesday’s proceedings are expected to be closely watched as both the ruling party and the opposition prepare for detailed debate on governance and expenditure matters.
