A case has come to light at DKS Hospital in Raipur where a patient’s mobile phone was stolen and later used for online fraud. The victim has lodged a complaint with the police, following which an investigation has been initiated.
According to the information, Debaraj Behera, originally from Odisha and currently working at an optical shop in Raipur, suddenly suffered a brain hemorrhage on June 27, 2025. He collapsed unconscious, after which his colleagues and others admitted him to DKS Hospital for treatment.
On June 29, Debaraj’s brothers, Loknath Behera and Hemraj Behera, arrived in Raipur from Odisha. During this time, Hemraj kept Debaraj’s mobile phone and wallet in the drawer of the medicine table. Around 6 p.m., when their colleague Santoshi Sahu came to visit him, the mobile phone was found missing.
Later, it was discovered that unknown thieves had stolen the phone and, through the PhonePe app, withdrew ₹40,000 from the patient’s account on July 1 and ₹22,800 on July 2, causing a total loss of ₹72,800.
After recovering, when Debaraj checked his bank account, he realized that he had been defrauded. He then lodged an FIR at the Golbazar police station. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and started investigating the mobile phone and online transactions to identify and arrest the accused.
Considering the seriousness of the case, the police are taking swift action on both aspects — the mobile theft and the online fraud.
