In a key meeting of the Parliamentary Estimates Committee held in Delhi, Chhattisgarh MP and senior BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal presented an extensive set of proposals aimed at expanding the state’s aviation infrastructure. Stressing that Chhattisgarh’s economy is growing rapidly, he said the state now requires an airport system powered by green energy.
Agrawal urged the Centre to grant early approval for a large greenfield international airport, keeping in view the emerging Raipur–Nava Raipur–Bhilai industrial corridor. He argued that Chhattisgarh has already established itself as a national hub for steel and power production, and a second international airport would significantly boost economic momentum.
Push for Greater Coverage Under UDAN
Calling the existing aviation platforms in Bilaspur, Raigarh, Ambikapur, and Jagdalpur a positive step, the MP demanded enhanced benefits for the state in the upcoming UDAN 2025–35 phase. He sought new air routes, improved facilities, and stronger connectivity for these cities to meet future travel demand.
Demand for 100% Green Energy Tag
Agrawal appreciated the ministry’s achievement in converting 87 airports across India to 100% green energy. He urged that Raipur, Bilaspur, and Jagdalpur airports be prioritized for the same certification and that the ministry announce a fixed timeline.
He also proposed the installation of a dedicated solar power plant at Raipur Airport to ensure sustainable operations.
Need for Rapid Infrastructure Upgrades
Raising concerns over ongoing reconfiguration work at the Raipur Airport, Agrawal called for faster execution, an upgraded ATC tower, and a clear roadmap for expanding passenger-handling capacity. He further sought clarity on private investment interest under the PPP model for aviation upgrades in the capital region.
Officials present at the meeting assured that the MP’s recommendations would be examined seriously. A favourable decision, industry observers say, could give a major push to air connectivity and industrial development in Chhattisgarh.
