Woman alleges government officer established physical relationship after assuring marriage; police launch search operation
A Naib Tehsildar posted in Chhattisgarh has been booked on charges of rape after a woman accused him of establishing a physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage. The case, registered in Raipur, has triggered an investigation into the conduct of the government officer, who is currently reported to be absconding.
According to police, the complainant alleged that she came into contact with the accused, Divakar Bhaskar, through social media. Their interaction gradually developed into a close relationship, during which the officer allegedly assured her that he would marry her. Based on that promise, the woman claims she entered into a physical relationship with him.
The case was registered at Ganj Police Station in Raipur after the woman alleged that the officer later began avoiding discussions about marriage and repeatedly postponed any commitment. Feeling deceived, she approached the police and filed a formal complaint.
Investigators said the accused allegedly invited the woman to a hotel in Raipur, where the physical relationship took place. The complainant maintains that the relationship was based on a promise of marriage that was never fulfilled.
Digital Evidence Under Scrutiny
Police officials have initiated a detailed investigation and are examining all available electronic and documentary evidence related to the case. This includes hotel records, mobile phone call details, social media conversations, messages, and other digital communications exchanged between the two parties.
According to officials, the case has been registered under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with allegations involving sexual relations established through false promises or deception.
Sources familiar with the investigation said that Divakar Bhaskar is currently posted as a Naib Tehsildar in the Latori area of Surajpur district. However, since the registration of the FIR, he has reportedly remained out of reach of law enforcement authorities.
Search Operation Intensified
Police teams have begun conducting raids at locations linked to the accused. Officers have visited his residence and other possible hideouts in an effort to trace his whereabouts. Despite multiple search operations, the accused had not been arrested at the time of reporting.
Authorities also revealed that Bhaskar has been on medical leave since June 6 and has not attended office since then. Investigators are now trying to establish his current location while simultaneously gathering evidence to strengthen the case.
Officials stated that once the accused is apprehended, he will be questioned regarding the allegations. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation and the evidence collected during the inquiry.
The case has once again highlighted the growing number of complaints involving alleged false promises of marriage and relationships formed through social media platforms. Legal experts note that such cases increasingly rely on digital evidence, making electronic records a critical component of modern criminal investigations.
For now, the Raipur Police continue their search for the accused officer while pursuing multiple investigative leads. The final outcome of the case will depend on the evidence presented and the conclusions reached during the ongoing investigation.
