The district-level launch was held simultaneously at PM Shri Eklavya Model Residential School in Poridih under Khadgawan block and Swami Atmanand Government School in Manendragarh. The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a live virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was watched by students, teachers, public representatives and officials.

Following the address, participants took a pledge to support a drug-free India and committed themselves to spreading awareness about the harmful effects of addiction.

Addressing the gathering, Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal described the country's youth as its greatest strength and said the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) could only be achieved if young citizens remained free from addiction.

He appealed to students not only to avoid intoxicants themselves but also to encourage their families, friends and communities to adopt a drug-free lifestyle.

The minister said substance abuse harms not just an individual but also affects families and society at large. He stressed that the active participation of young people would be crucial in transforming the anti-drug initiative into a mass public movement.

As part of the campaign, students reaffirmed their commitment to building a drug-free society. Officials said awareness programmes under the initiative will continue for the next 100 weeks, including pledge ceremonies, rallies, public outreach campaigns and interactive sessions across educational institutions and communities.

The long-term campaign aims to educate young people about the social and health consequences of drug abuse while promoting healthy lifestyles and responsible citizenship.

The programme was attended by public representatives, administrative officials, school management committees, teachers, students and local residents, who participated in the awareness activities and pledged support for the national mission.
