New Opposition Voice to Echo in Raipur Municipal Corporation’s First General Assembly

The first general meeting of the Raipur Municipal Corporation after the change in the Leader of Opposition began on Wednesday, marking the start of a new political phase in the city’s civic body.

The session opened with an hour-long question period, during which corporators raised issues related to civic amenities and development works in their respective wards. Key topics dominating the discussions included road repairs, drinking water supply, drainage cleaning, power supply, and public infrastructure.

Record Participation During Question Hour

This time, 14 to 15 corporators submitted questions for the session — the highest number so far. Following the question hour, the House is scheduled to discuss 14 major agenda items, including sanitation services, solid waste management, streetlight maintenance, revenue collection, and a review of ongoing construction projects.

New Opposition Leadership in Focus

A major highlight of the meeting was Aakash Tiwari’s debut as the new Leader of Opposition, succeeding Sandeep Sahu. The prolonged internal dispute over the post, which had persisted for nearly 10 months, was finally resolved after Chairman Suryakant Rathore officially issued an order confirming Tiwari’s appointment on Tuesday.

The Congress camp, which had been divided over the leadership issue, has now reached a consensus, expressing confidence in Tiwari’s ability to strengthen the opposition’s presence in the House.

Corporators said they expect that under his leadership, the opposition’s voice will be heard more assertively, ensuring that citizens’ concerns over roads, sanitation, water, and electricity receive due attention from the administration
