A young man was killed and his companion critically injured after a motorcycle collided with a truck Friday morning in the industrial zone under Bhilai-3 police station limits in Durg district, police said.
The deceased was identified as Bhupendra, originally from Uttar Pradesh, who had been living in a rented house in the Khursipar area. He and his colleague were riding to work when the crash occurred. Officials said Bhupendra died at the scene from severe injuries, while the second rider was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition and remains under treatment.
Authorities reported that the truck driver fled immediately after the collision. Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information, sent the body for post-mortem examination, and began a search for the absconding driver.
Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding may have caused the accident. Investigators are reviewing nearby CCTV footage and collecting statements from eyewitnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine liability.
Officers said further legal action will be taken once the driver is identified and apprehended. The incident has renewed concerns about speeding and heavy-vehicle movement in industrial zones during peak work hours, where traffic from two-wheelers and trucks often overlaps.
