Over 5.5 Lakh Voters Face Errors in Electoral Rolls in Raipur, February 14 Deadline for Corrections

More than 5.5 lakh voters in Raipur district are facing discrepancies in the electoral rolls, with authorities warning that February 14 is the final deadline to correct errors or restore deleted names before the publication of the final voter list on February 21.

According to district election officials, a total of 5.52 lakh voters have been identified with issues in their records during the ongoing verification drive. Of these, around 4.22 lakh voters have discrepancies in personal details such as name, age, gender, or father’s name, while documents of nearly 1.33 lakh voters from 2003 do not match records updated in 2025. Failure to resolve these mismatches could lead to permanent deletion of names from the electoral roll for the upcoming election cycle.

The administration said that nearly 90 percent of affected voters have been informed through notices, public announcements, and door-to-door campaigns. Despite this, officials admitted that a significant number of voters are yet to appear for hearings or submit documents for verification. As a result, Raipur is expected to record the highest number of deletions in the state if corrections are not completed within the stipulated time.

Raipur district has approximately 18.92 lakh registered voters across its seven विधानसभा constituencies. While the majority of voters have already been included in the draft rolls without objection, the scale of discrepancies among the remaining voters has raised concerns among election officials, particularly with elections approaching.

An analysis of the data shows that women voters account for a higher proportion of the affected list. Constituency-wise figures indicate that female voters’ names have been flagged or removed in larger numbers compared to male voters, a trend that officials say could be linked to name changes after marriage and documentation inconsistencies.

Election officials stressed that voters who have received notices must complete verification by February 14. The period between February 15 and 20 has been earmarked for administrative processing, after which the final electoral roll will be published on February 21. While officials noted that there may still be limited scope for inclusion after final publication under special provisions, they cautioned that the process would be more time-consuming and uncertain.

“The responsibility now lies with voters to respond promptly,” an official said, urging residents to treat the deadline seriously to safeguard their voting rights. Authorities have reiterated that no extensions will be granted beyond the notified schedule.
