PMGSY Roads Damaged by Heavy Vehicles; Potholes Widespread, Height Barriers Installed

Frequent movement of heavy vehicles has left PMGSY roads in poor condition, with potholes appearing across several stretches. In response, authorities have begun installing height barriers to prevent further damage.
In Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district, the roads are getting damaged due to vehicles having twice the capacity of 15 tonnes running on the rural roads. Within a year of construction, the roads have turned into potholes. On the demand of the villagers, the contracting companies have been asked to repair them after the rains. At present, height barriers have been installed to stop heavy vehicles. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana, a paved road was built from Gona to Gariba and Barhi Dewanmuda, but the roads are not able to last even for a year.
The asphalt layers start peeling off from the roads within 6 months. Potholes are visible on the roads, then questions start being raised on the quality of work. But the real reason for the roads getting damaged is the daily passing of heavy capacity vehicles. The maximum capacity of a rural road is 15 tonnes, while businessmen run their heavy vehicles weighing 35 to 40 tonnes on rural roads. The asphalt layers start peeling off due to the movement of vehicles weighing twice the weight.
