The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) has intensified its revenue recovery drive in the Dongargarh and Chhuria divisions, recovering over ₹55 lakh from defaulting consumers and disconnecting 108 electricity connections as part of a zero-tolerance campaign against non-payment and power theft.
According to officials, the special enforcement drive targeted consumers with long-pending electricity dues across the Dongargarh–Chhuria subdivision in Rajnandgaon district. A total of ₹55.06 lakh was recovered from 3,198 consumers who had failed to clear outstanding bills despite repeated notices.
The campaign was carried out under the supervision of Dongargarh Division Executive Engineer Pritam Jacob. Special teams comprising assistant and junior engineers were constituted to conduct simultaneous inspections across nine major distribution centres—Dongargarh city, Dongargarh rural, Bamhni Charbhanta, Dhara, Musra Kala, Chhuria, Lalbahadur Nagar, Murmunda and Sadak Chirchari.
Officials said the drive focused not only on revenue recovery but also on curbing electricity theft. During inspections, several consumers were found using electricity illegally through direct hooking and meter bypassing. Action has been initiated against these violators under relevant provisions of the Electricity Act, and cases are being prepared for prosecution.
As part of strict enforcement, 108 electricity connections were either temporarily or permanently disconnected after the consumers failed to clear arrears amounting to ₹7.52 lakh. CSPDCL officials said these consumers had been served multiple notices but continued to default on payments.
The power utility also flagged outstanding electricity dues owed by several government departments. Formal notices have been issued to the heads of these departments, directing them to ensure immediate clearance of pending bills to avoid further action.
During the campaign, CSPDCL teams also used the opportunity to create awareness among consumers about convenient payment options. Officials encouraged users to adopt digital payment methods and advised them to download the ‘Mor Bijli’ mobile application, which allows consumers to pay bills from home and track their electricity usage.
In addition, information was shared about the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Consumers were briefed on how eligible households can benefit from subsidies and receive up to 300 units of free electricity through rooftop solar installations.
CSPDCL officials said such enforcement drives will continue in the coming weeks to improve revenue collection, discourage power theft and promote responsible electricity usage. The utility reiterated that timely payment of bills and lawful consumption of electricity are essential for maintaining uninterrupted power supply and strengthening the distribution network.
